This
tool can be used to create a 'hash' from a file which you can share with other
people. A hash is almost a unique fingerprint of a file. With that hash, other
people can download the exact same file as where you created the hash from.
A
QuickLink is a hash in the form of a hyperlink. It uses it own protocol
(sig2dat://) to be able to send a hash to a program when you click on the
hyperlink. It is similar to the protocol (http://) that is used to open web
pages in your web browser.
There
are several different programs that can create and use these hashes. The first
one was Sig2Dat. That is why we call these hashes Sig2Dat hashes. The latest
version of Kazaa Lite contains a similar program called K-Sig. K-Sig has some
extra options compared to the old Sig2Dat program.
Below
you will find some simple guides for creating and using Sig2Dat hashes, both for
the Sig2Dat program and for the K-Sig program.
How to use Sig2Dat to download files (hash)
A
Sig2Dat hash looks like this for example:
File: Friends - 101 - Pilot.avi
Length: 117977088 Bytes, 115212KB
UUHash: =S8hsFRuHtrQFq58jEhj+ofMudZI=
To
download this file, do the following:
1)
Start Sig2Dat
2)
Select the whole hash (all three lines!) and copy it
3) In
Sig2Dat click on 'Paste from Clipboard' in the top menu
4) If
you did it correctly, then a .dat file should have been created by Sig2Dat
5)
Restart Kazaa Lite to make the file show up in the Traffic window of Kazaa Lite
2)
Sig2Dat will create a .dat file in your download folder of Kazaa Lite
3)
Restart Kazaa Lite so that the file will show up in the Traffic window of Kazaa
Lite
